Distance Education:
Program Design/Management
TGOW Institute specializes in the design and management of low-cost distance education program delivery systems for adult degree completion. Our distance education program designs include academic and student support systems designed for working adults, ages 23 and over, who desire to complete their degree requirements through computer-mediated on-line instruction. These support systems include the means to ensure daily contact between faculty and students via e-mail or state-of-the-art Instant Messaging, an on-line library and reference desk, and electronic file exchange capability.
Self-directed adult learners are enrolled into an on-line electronic learning forum [ELF] that is available 24/7 anywhere in the world where access to the Internet is available. Once in the ELF, students can complete course-related readings assignments, and submit homework in timely manner.
Adult learners experience interactive on-line participation, live discussions, simulated practice exercises, and approach problem-solving through innovative techniques that utilize a full range of internet educational resources, and allow them to infuse personal reflections and individualize their learning process.
Adult Degree Program:
Curriculum Design
TGOW has over ten (10) years of experience in designing courses and degree programs for adult learners. Among the complete degree programs we have designed are majors in:
- Communications Management
- Organizational Management
We have also participated on design teams for courses in an adult degree program in Criminal Justice Administration, and special courses that support these majors, such as Action Research Project.
Most recently, TGOW has been engaged in the conversion of adult degree program courses into an on-line delivery format. We have completed the conversion of courses for a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management, and over 54 semester hours of General Studies core courses to supplement major requirements.
At the high school level, TGOW has worked with such school districts as the State of California in helping it meet its goals of valuing diversity in its curriculum, and with the Dayton Public Schools District, assisting with its goal of infusing Black History content into K-12 social science courses.
One of the highlights in our consultant work was the recent request to assist Greenville Weston High School, Greenville, MS, design a new course offering titled Service-Learning for Social Change. The final course design was implemented in January 2006, and 25 senior-level honors students were enrolled at this award winning high school in the Mississippi Delta.
